The Foundation was established in 1992 by representatives of companies related to trade exchange and industrial Hispanic-Norwegian and representatives of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Madrid and the Federation of Norwegian in Madrid, as well as others engaged in the work of maintaining and developing contact between our two countries.
FOUNDATION PRINCESA KRISTINA NORWAY main purpose is to foster and promote all kinds of cultural activities, and other nature that may help improve the Norwegian-Hispanic relations, preserving, promoting and disseminating cultural, social and economic commonalities and specific of the two countries.
Also they noted in the Statutes and aims of the Foundation:
- Address, in cooperation and understanding with the local authorities, the proper maintenance of the statue of Princess Kristina of Norway in Covarrubias.
- The Foundation also collects and endorses the promise that the Infante Felipe of Castile, brother of King Alfonso X the Wise, made his wife Princess Kristina of Norway, daughter of King Haakon Håkonsson, to erect in Castile a chapel in memory king Olav of Norway, as a symbol of the ties between two cultures with many common elements despite the distance that separates them.
- All kinds of activities related to the disclosure of the problems concerning the environment and the natural environment, raising awareness of the need to develop specific and effective measures for their protection and recovery.
- And to that end, organizing conferences, events, symposia, performances and meetings between the competent institutions, business organizations and associations whose activity is directly or indirectly related to these issues; and the establishment of contests and / or awards, or scholarships in recognition and as an incentive to conduct, work or projects that represent significant contributions to the purposes of the Foundation.
In short: the organization and collaboration in the preparation of those events, conferences, forums, concerts, plays and socio-cultural activities can effectively contribute to strengthening relations between Spain and Norway.
The Foundation has its registered office in Covarrubias, Castile and Leon Villa which houses the remains of Princess Kristina and where the Chapel of St. Olav is.
